  • Lawyer: 3 Saints took no steroids (AP)The lawyer for three New Orleans Saints players facing suspension says none of them took steroids. The three were accused of taking a banned diurectic and went before an NFL appeals hearing Tuesday. David Cornwell represents running back Deuce McAllister and defensive linemen Will Smith and Charles Grant.
  • Saints Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

It didn't take the Saints long to identify the turning point of their must-win game with the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday afternoon.

While the offense usually gets most of the attention, and rightfully so considering they lead the NFL in total yards, the much-maligned defense only gets looked at when it gives up more points than the offense can score.

But in the Saints' 30-20 win over the Chiefs in Arrowhead Stadium, the defense deserved to take a bow. They held the Chiefs to six points instead of 14 when Kansas City had a first-and-goal at the Saints' 1 late in the second quarter and a first-and-goal from the 3 early in the third.

Running back Larry Johnson was held to minus-1 yard on three carries and Tyler Thigpen misfired on three passes to wide receiver...

  • Winners and losers: Warner back to MVP form (Yahoo! Sports)Cards QB Kurt Warner is putting up wild numbers and conjuring images of his incredible '99 season.
  • Saints breeze past Chiefs for first road win (AP)

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe (82) pulls in a touchdown catch over New Orleans Saints cornerback Usama Young (28) to get the Chiefs within 7 points early in the fourth quarter of an NFL football game in Kansas City, Mo., Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008. The Saints won 30-20.

Like a slick and experienced salesman, Drew Brees knows how to close. Kansas City, desperate for a win, scored in the fourth quarter to get within seven points and had the home crowd raising a ruckus. But Brees coolly took the NFL's top-ranked offense on a 12-play drive that ate 6 minutes and 27 seconds off the clock and was capped by Garrett Hartley's 35-yard field goal.

  • Bush among Saints' inactives (AP)After hoping all week to get Reggie Bush back in the lineup, the New Orleans Saints put the running back on the inactive list Sunday. The Saints and Kansas City Chiefs both had several starters inactive. With Bush missing his third game with a knee injury, he was joined by fullback Mike Karney and center Jonathan Goodwin, who also had problems with knees.
  • No. 1 offense heads to No. 32 defense (AP)No. 1 vs. No. 32 sounds like the biggest mismatch of the day. The offense that's gobbled up the most yardage in the NFL this season will face off against the defense that's given up the most. In this corner are the New Orleans Saints (4-5), with Drew Brees on pace to smash Dan Marino's NFL record of 5,084 yards passing.

In this Nov. 9, 2008 photo, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees walks off the field following a 34-20 loss to the Atlanta Falcons in their NFL football game at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. Brees could very well set the NFL's all-time record for yards passing in a single season while playing for a losing team.

Drew Brees could very well set the NFL's all-time record for yards passing in a single season -- while playing for a losing team. History shows that's a hard thing to do. Then again, the New Orleans Saints have found creative ways to disappoint their long-suffering fans before. Brees threw for 422 yards in New Orleans' 34-20 loss to Atlanta on Sunday, which dropped the Saints to 4-5 and marked the...

Later in the day, the Saints claimed recently released Washington cornerback Leigh Torrence off of waivers, giving him McKenzie's roster spot.

New Orleans Saints' Aaron Glenn sits on the bench in the final second of the Saints' 34-20 loss to the Atlanta Falcons in an NFL football game Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, in Atlanta.

When John Abraham wasn't bearing down on him, Drew Brees had to contend with all those pesky Atlanta defensive backs, constantly getting in the way of his throws. It was a miserable afternoon for the NFL's most prolific passer. While Atlanta rookie Matt Ryan turned in another solid performance, Brees threw a season-high three interceptions, the last of them returned 95 yards for a touchdown by...

  • Saints' McKenzie fractures right kneecap (AP)

New Orleans Saints defensive back Mike McKenzie (34) is carted off the field after he was injured in the third quarter of an NFL football game against the Atlanta Falcons, Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, in Atlanta. Atlanta won 34-20.

New Orleans cornerback Mike McKenzie suffered a fractured right kneecap on Sunday, forcing him to contemplate another long rehabilitation less than one year after having reconstructive surgery on the same knee. McKenzie was carted off the field Sunday after suffering the injury while defending a third-down pass to Michael Jenkins.

The Saints listed Bush as out on Friday as the running back recovers from surgery to repair the meniscus in his left knee. Shockey, who missed three games because of sports hernia surgery in Week 4, has played in pain in two games since his...
  • Week 10 NFL picks: Joy of sacks for Giants, Steelers (SportingNews.com)The New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers are duking it out every week for the NFL team lead in sacks, and it's no surprise they are on the short list of Super Bowl 43 favorites.
  • Shockey, Colston, looking to contribute more (AP)The New Orleans Saints' passing attack has been the NFL's best despite injuries to Marques Colston and Jeremy Shockey. Saints fans can only imagine what Drew Brees might be able to do when the players who were expected to be his top receivers are healthy, but there's hope in New Orleans that such a day is coming soon.
  • Saints' McCray steps back into starting role (AP)Slender but speedy defensive end Bobby McCray came to New Orleans with the goal of restoring his reputation as a pass-rusher extraordinaire. With Charles Grant and Will Smith secure in their starting spots at his position, McCray could sit out a number of grueling short-yardage plays, then come in fresh with his all-out, outside rush in passing situations.
  • McNabb doing fine with only go-to guy(s) (AP)Surely all NFL fans have heard of Donovan McNabb. Star quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles. Plays in Pro Bowls, playoffs games and shares TV time with him mom in commercials. Those guys he throws passes to every week? Don't worry, most fans outside Philadelphia can't name its receivers. McNabb's career usually has included the "Who is that guy?" receiver instead of a real go-to guy.

  • Bush optimistic as Saints resume work after bye (AP)Reggie Bush ran on Wednesday for the first time since having surgery on his left knee just over two weeks ago. "It felt really good, actually," Bush said, adding that he'd be surprised if he missed any more games after this Sunday's NFC...
