Ronald Curry, one of the few Raiders to have been associated with the team when it was a division champion, has seen teammates fluctuate on the depth chart for reasons other than performance for years.
He just never thought it would happen to him.
Curry has been the Raiders leading receiver the past two years, even though he is often the third wide receiver. He always figured being productive when his name called would be enough.
"I've always been one of those guys that's been monkeyed around with as far as giving other guys an opportunity, coming off the field on certain routes, bringing guys in," Curry said. It's been more than three decades since a quarterback played a game as poorly as Jake Delhomme did and still ended up on the winning side. That's what facing a team as bad as the Oakland Raiders will do. Delhomme threw a touchdown pass on the opening drive but completed only six other passes while throwing four interceptions in the Carolina Panthers' 17-6 victory over the Raiders on Sunday.
