Lightning lose with 52 shots; Oilers win with 19 (AP) The Tampa Bay Lightning rattled off a franchise-record worth of shots against the Florida Panthers and still couldn't skate off with a win. The Edmonton Oilers kept their total at a minimum, but managed to find the net again and again in a most-efficient victory at the expense of the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Lightning Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
After former head coach Barry Melrose was fired last week, his handling of overall No. 1 draft pick Steven Stamkos came under scrutiny. The rookie, who had two goals and four points in 16 games under Melrose, was averaging around 11 minutes a night and saw little power play time.
With interim coach Rick Tocchet now at the helm, Stamkos figures to be featured more prominently on the ice. And if his play on Tuesday is any indication, Stamkos looks ready to break out as he looks to carry the momentum into Friday's game against Nashville.
Stamkos entered Tuesday in an eight-game scoring drought. He had not registered a point since notching the first two goals of his career on Oct.

McCabe scores twice as Panthers beat Lightning 4-3 (AP)

The Florida Panthers are finding ways to win. The same can't be said for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Bryan McCabe scored twice in regulation and Nathan Horton had the lone goal in a shootout for the Panthers, who beat Tampa Bay 4-3 on Tuesday night. Tomas Vokoun made 49 saves, and David Booth added a goal for Florida, which has won three of four following a six-game losing streak.

Canes spoil Tocchet's debut as Tampa Bay coach (AP)

One practice wasn't enough for Rick Tocchet to correct all that was wrong with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Tocchet lost his debut as Tampa Bay coach when Tuomo Ruutu and Rod Brind'Amour scored in the shootout and Cam Ward stopped two shots to give the Carolina Hurricanes a 3-2 victory Sunday. "It's a step in the right direction," Tocchet said.

Lightning fire Melrose, replace him with Tocchet (AP)

A hard-nosed and aggressive player on the ice during an 18-year career, Rick Tocchet also was once suspended from the NHL because of his involvement in a sports betting ring. Now, he's the interim coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning, replacing former television analyst Barry Melrose -- fired Friday just 16 games into his second tour of duty as a head coach in the league.
